Satirist; author of The Rosciad, 1761, a satire on contemporary actors (only David Garrick escaped his vitriol). Churchill's other targets included the Prime Minister, Lord Bute, the author, Tobias Smollett and the artist, William Hogarth. He died young on his way to visit his friend, John Wilkes, who was then living in exile in Paris.
