As the photographer Andrew Catlin has explained, 'This picture was shot in a hotel room in Oporto at around 6am after 48 hours without sleep. It is one of a complex series of pictures from just a few minutes of time, that have featured on multiple record sleeves, books, magazines and films. A collision of portraiture, reportage and perception.'
