Arboriculturalist. Born at Southampton, Baker went to Canada, returning to England to read Divinity at Cambridge. He enlisted in 1914. Wounded twice, he was invalided out in 1918, and returned to Cambridge to study forestry. Baker went to Kenya in the Colonial Service in 1920, and in 1922 founded the 'Men of the Trees' among the Kikuyu in reaction to forestry destruction.
