Keene graduated from the School of Medicine for Women in London in 1911, returning as a teacher of anatomy in 1914 and forming a lifelong attachment to the institution. Her most celebrated research concerned the nervous system of the human fetus but she is equally remembered for campaigning on behalf of the School of Medicine throughout her life.
