One of many copies of the now lost pastel exhibited in Paris in 1748, it shows the Prince wearing armour over the ribbons of the orders of the Garter and the Thistle. Given to the National Portrait Gallery in 1927, when recorded as being in poor condition. More detailed information on this portrait is available in a National Portrait Gallery collection catalogue, John Kerslake's Early Georgian Portraits (1977, out of print).
