Oscar Wilde was a famous Irish poet and playwright of the late Victorian era. His unconventional behaviour, witty and paradoxical remarks, and dandified pose brought him notoriety in the late Victorian era. In the 1890s, he wrote a series a successful comedies including The Importance of Being Ernest. Wilde's only novel, The Picture of Dorian Grey, was published in 1890 and although controversial at the time, remains one of his most famous works.
