Walter Parratt was an organist who exerted great influence by his understanding of Bach. His prodigious musical memory was evident from an early age, and at ten, he could play the whole of Bach's Das Wohltemperirte Clavier by heart. The following year he was appointed organist at a local church. Parratt worked in several churches before, in 1872, becoming organist of Magdalen College, Oxford.
