Hardy Amies was a fashion designer. He began his career in couture at Lachasse in 1934. During the Second World War he contributed to the 'Utility' scheme operated by the Board of Trade, but he opened his own fashion house in 1945. He was Dressmaker by Appointment to Her Majesty The Queen (from 1946).
