Suffragist and poet Gore-Booth came from a highly political family and she successfully campaigned to stop the execution of her sister, Constance, for her involvement in the Easter Rising of 1916. She met Esther Roper, secretary of the North England Society for Women's Suffrage in 1896 and they formed a lifelong personal and professional relationship.
