Official engagement photograph taken by Vandyk. The Court Circular of the 15 January 1923 contained the statement; 'It is with the greatest pleasure that The King and Queen announce the Betrothal of Their beloved son the Duke of York to the lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, daughter of the Earl and Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne, to which union The King has gladly given His Consent'. This print is made from one of eleven negatives from the sitting held by the National Portrait Gallery.
