Having worked initially in the silk trade, Henry Pickersgill enrolled at the Royal Academy schools in 1805 and began exhibiting there the following year. Pickersgill was for over sixty years a constant and prolific exhibitor at the Royal Academy, where nearly four hundred of his paintings were shown.
