In 1838, she went to visit her sister in Reval, Russia (now Tallinn, Estonia). She stayed until 1841 and her letters were published as A Residence on the Shores of the Baltic (1841). The success of this travel book led to writing for various magazines, including another anonymous piece on 'Lady Travellers' in the Quarterly Review in 1845.
