Elizabeth Carter Greetings Card
Blank greetings card with envelope featuring:
Elizabeth Carter NPG 28
© National Portrait Gallery, London
by Sir Thomas Lawrence
From the age of about eleven, Lawrence had supported his family by making pastel portraits in the fashionable spa town of Bath. This portrait of the Bluestocking intellectual Elizabeth Carter was, however, executed soon after he moved to London in 1787. Shown at the Royal Academy in 1790, this was one of the last pastels that Lawrence exhibited. With its easy handling and sensitivity to the age, appearance and modesty of a diffident sitter it marks the high-point of Lawrence's pastels.
Card size: 125mm x 175mm
Images are printed in their original proportions, within a white border.
