Mayne was a well-known music hall singer and principal boy. She first appeared in variety at the Oxford Music Hall, London, in 1908, and, with her husband James W. Tate, established a popular double-act as 'Clarice Mayne and That'. Together they introduced many songs, mostly written by Tate, including I Was A Good Little Girl Till I Met You and their most successful hit, Joshua.
