Born in Birmingham, Mellon is known as a violinst, conductor and composer. He has worked with the Royal Italian Opera at Covent Garden, and taken the role of Music Director at The Pyne and Harrison English opera company, as well as the Haymarket and Adelphi theatres. In 1865, he was made the conductor of the Liverpool Philharmonic Society.
