by London Stereoscopic & Photographic Company
This photograph is unusual in that Hunt is presented in his role as an artist. It is unclear whether the sheets in the portfolio are drawings or prints. Hunt frequently produced etchings and engravings and contributed illustrations to the Moxon edition of Alfred Tennyson's Poems (1857). Hunt's remarkable popular acclaim was based primarily on engravings after paintings rather than exhibited work. Prints of his religious subjects were among the most widely circulated of the nineteenth century.
Card size: 125mm x 175mm
