James Dickson Innes was a Welsh landscape painter who worked in both oils and watercolours. He studied at the Carmarthen School of Art and the Slade School of Art, and while still a student he began to exhibit his work at the New English Art Club. In 1908, Innes travelled to France with fellow artist John Fothergill. The trip had a lasting influence on Innes' work, but had to be cut short as he fell ill with tuberculosis.
