Edward Shortt was a politician who served as a member of David Lloyd George's cabinet. In 1890, Shortt was called to the Bar by the Middle Temple, of which he was elected a bencher in 1919, and joined the north eastern circuit. He entered Parliament as a Liberal MP in 1910. In 1918, he was appointed Chief Secretary for Ireland, and a year later was transferred as Home Secretary to the Home Office, in the midst of a threatened police strike. He helped to... more
