Kar photographed Lanyon with daughter Anna Mary, one of his six children, in the garden of their home at Little Park Owles, Carbis Bay, outside St Ives, that Lanyon had acquired in 1954. Formerly the home of the painter Adrian Stokes, the house was an important centre of artistic activity.
