A prominent broadcaster and journalist during the 1950s and 1960s. Spain's career began as a sports reporter. During the Second World War, she served in the Women's Royal Naval Service, which inspired her to write the best-selling Thank You Nelson (1945). After the War she settled in London and worked on the Daily Express and News of the World in addition to writing biography and detective fiction.
