On leaving school at fifteen, Hill tried various jobs including as a milkman which would later inspire his popular song 'Ernie (The fastest milkman in the west)'. In 1947, after serving in the army and the army's entertainment unit, Hill began to tour pubs with a comedy routine. He began to appear on television where he became an international star through The Benny Hill Show (1955-1989). Famed for his 'seaside postcard' sauciness, Hill achieved international stardom.
