Wood was articled to a solicitor, qualified in 1903 and set up his own City practice specialising in industrial insurance law, which later became Kingsley Wood, Williams, Murphy, and Ross. He entered Parliament as a Conservative MP in 1918 and became Parliamentary Private Secretary to several ministers of health. Subsequently Wood was made Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Health in the Conservative Government from 1924 to 1929.
