London-born musician and television presenter. Played with the band Squeeze (1974-80) before forming The Millionaires and then going on to a solo career in 1983. Formed his 18 piece Rhythm and Blues Orchestra in 1994. His piano style stems from the New Orleans boogie-woogie tradition and blues. Celebrated as television presenter for The Tube (1980s), Juke Box Jury and Later...with Jools Holland (now in its 20th series).
