Born in Russia in 1808, Dr. Pomeraniac studied Medicine in Frankfurt and Chemical Engineering in Berlin. In 1938 he left Nazi Germany for Brussels, joining the Belgian Army under French command when the Germans invaded in May 1940. By June 1940 he was evacuated to Britain. In London he experimented with a variety of specialist chemicals and in 1947 he set up Commercial Plastics Ltd, with the assistance of Sir Isaac Wolfson of Great Universal Stores (GUS).
