George Rose entered Parliament as an MP in 1784. He was a strong supporter and ally of William Pitt, but he did not share Pitt's enthusiasm for parliamentary reform, Catholic relief and abolition of the slave trade. Rose served in many senior government posts including twice as Vice President of the Board of Trade, Paymaster of the Forces and Treasurer of the Navy.
