Myers took up photography in 1888 to record her children. Although self-taught, her technique was influenced by contemporaries. She received technical advice from Albert George Dew Smith, a lens maker and talented amateur photographer. She also owned a number of original prints by Julia Margaret Cameron and posed her children in Cameronesque compositions.
