Lawyer, critic and editor of Shakespeare. A cosmopolitan man, who travelled between Dublin, Paris and London, Malone did not settle permanently in England until 1777. He rapidly gained admission to the best literary and political circles of the day. He was frequently in attendance at Samuel Johnson's Literary Club and became a close friend of Boswell and Reynolds.
