In February 1909, Chief Seeiso lead a delegation of Basuto chiefs and their interpreters to London to meet with the British government and King Edward VII to challenge the British government's decision to include their land - Lesotho, within the new Union of South Africa. The delegation were received at the House of Commons by Colonel Seely (later Lord Mottistone), who had recently been appointed Under-Secretary to the Colonial Office, and had previously distinguished himself serving for 18 months in South Africa during the Boer... more
