Born Georgette Lizette Withers in Karachi, India, she made her film debut in The Girl in the Crowd in 1934. She also appeared in Ealing productions such as Pink String and Sealing Wax (1945) and It Always Rains on a Sunday (1947) in which she starred opposite John McCallum, whom she married in 1948. Critically acclaimed stage roles included those in Terence Rattigan's The Deep Blue Sea (1952), before Withers moved with McCallum to his native Australia in the late 1950s.
