Tennyson's home from 1853, Farringford house at Freshwater on the Isle of Wight, made him a close neighbour of Julia Margaret Cameron and she photographed him and his family on a number of occasions. Tennyson famously referred to this portrait of him as that showing the 'Dirty Monk'.
