One of the most popular film stars in 1930s Germany. Born in London, Harvey's family moved to Berlin in 1914, and she made her name in musical films including 'Der Kongress Tanzt' (1931). Despite being Hitler's favourite actress, she objected to the Nazi regime, and helped persecuted colleagues escape Germany. During the Second World War she worked as a nurse for the Allied forces in France and Los Angeles, but anti-German prejudice meant that she could not revive her film career after the war.
