A literary figure during the 1830s, Carlyle collaborated with her husband, writer and historian Thomas Carlyle on many projects, including his famous history of the French Revolution. She is one the most celebrated letter-writers in the English language and the brilliant couple formed a circle of literary friends who came to the their house at Cheyne Row, Chelsea.
