American singer-songwriter and three time Grammy Award-winner. Barry White was born Barry Eugene Carter in Galveston, Texas. Inspired by his mother's classical music collection, he began playing piano and singing at an early age. At the age of 14 his voice dramatically broke, producing the distinctive bass-baritone that was to become his signature vocal style.
