Vivienne Isabel Swire was born in Derbyshire and moved to London with her family when she was 17. Her first career was as a primary school teacher but left in 1971 to form a partnership with Malcolm McLaren, manager of the Sex Pistols, (1946-2010). Together they opened a boutique on King's Road called Let it Rock which sold 'Teddy Boy' clothes.
