Chief Justice of Common Pleas. He became successively a fellow of All Souls College, Oxford, a Member of Parliament (1722-37), a judge on the Chester circuit (1726), attorney-general (1734), chief justice of common pleas (1737) and senior commissioner of the great seal (1756-57).
