Born in Santiago de Cuba, Arcocha studied law, journalism and languages at university. During the 1960s he was foreign correspondent in Moscow for the newspaper Revolución and later worked in the press office of the Cuban embassy in France. Arcocha was interpreter to Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir during their visit to Havana in 1960. In 1966, disillusioned by the restrictions imposed on artists by the Cuban government, Arcocha emigrated to France. He continued to write until his death in 2010.
