Collins was co-author of Chartism: a New Organization of the People, written in Warwick gaol in 1840. His fellow author, William Lovett, was a far more prominent and celebrated figure and the choice to portray Collins rather than Lovett is revealing. Lovett wrote the original six-point Charter in 1837 and can justly be called the movement's founder.
