Bombay-born Karaka was the grandson of Dosabhai Framji Karaka, the author of History of the Parsis a definitive study on the Parsi community. Karaka read Law at Lincoln College, Oxford and went on to become the first President of South Asian origin at the Oxford Union, succeeding his close friend Michael Foot.
