Charles Jenkinson, 1st Earl of Liverpool, was a leading MP during the early years of George III's reign. He was sympathetic to the new King's political interests and was a supporter of Lord Bute for whom he served as under-secretary between 1761 and 1763. He was appointed Lord of the Treasury in the Grafton administration in 1767. Jenkinson was appointed President of the Board of Trade in 1786.
