Casson studied at Eastbourne College and Cambridge (1929-1931), followed by the Bartlett School of Architecture. He taught architecture at Cambridge until 1939, when he worked in the Camouflage Unit. In 1948, Casson was appointed Director of Architecture for the Festival of Britain, after which he was knighted. In partnership with Neville Conder, Casson designed the Elephant House at London Zoo, Staff House, University of Birmingham, and the Arts Faculty for Cambridge.
