Impresario, theatrical producer and showman, Cochran was inspired to a lifelong passion for the theatre after an early visit to the pantomime Sinbad the Sailor. Twice bankrupt for his business activities, he mounted nearly 120 productions between 1914 and 1935. He achieved success with Max Reinhardt's spectacular production of The Miracle (1911) and the revues he presented at the Ambassador's Theatre and London Pavilion. From 1925 to 1934 he collaborated with Noel Coward on a series of musical shows.
