Richard Tattersall, known as 'Old Dick', was the grandson of Richard Tattersall, founder of Tattersall's, the horse auction mart. Richard Tattersall succeeded his father in the business and with his grandfather's ability and tact, forged close relationships with the best of the sporting men of his time in Britain and abroad. He was succeeded by his son, also named Richard, 'the younger'.
