Isaac Barrow was a mathematician and classical scholar, recognised today for his role in the development of modern calculus. During the 1650s Barrow wrote several concise Latin editions of the Greek mathematicians, utilising symbols for brevity. A Royalist at the time of the civil war, he travelled abroad from 1655 to 1659.
