Abraham Tucker was born to wealthy parents, which allowed him to buy a castle in Surrey and devote himself to philosophy. He published works on agriculture, language theory, and ethics, as well as humorous pamphlets satirising his critics. He also attached great importance to the education of his daughters. The eldest, Judith, edited the last three volumes of his book The Light of Nature Pursued after his death, even learning Greek in order to do so.
