by Francis Goodman
Goodman wrote in 1934: 'A fashion picture is right only when the dress is “alive,” and every dress has such a moment.' He suggested that a fashion photographer can 'make good use of the angle. A dress may be made to look more effective by showing it from an out of the ordinary point of view'. Goodman's early fashion photographs reveal the influence of Peter Rose Pulham. Goodman took over Rose Pulham's studio in 1936 when the latter moved to Paris to become a painter.
