Actor. Established himself as a classical actor at the Old Vic (1948-9) and was named Best Television Actor for his role in George Orwell's 1984 (1955). Best known for the gothic horror series produced by Hammer Films starting with The Curse of Frankenstein (1956). Other films include Hamlet (1948), The Hound of the Baskervilles (1959), Dr Who and the Daleks (1965) and Star Wars (1977).
