After receiving a degree in architecture from the University of Cambridge (1931), Mason began his acting career on stage before making his British film debut in Late Extra (1935). He established his career as a romantic villain in films such as The Seventh Veil (1945). Following his critically acclaimed role as a wounded Irish bank robber in Odd Man Out (1946), Mason moved to America in 1947.
