Best remembered as a witty conversationalist and as a friend of poets such as Byron and Wordsworth, Rogers attained eminence with the publication of his poem The Pleasures of Memory (1792). This widely praised poem was so popular that by 1806 it had gone through fifteen editions. His other published poetry included The Voyage of Columbus (1810) and Italy (1822-8).
