Lansbury was the founder and editor of the Daily Herald, a rallying point for opponents of the First World War, supporters of the Russian Revolution and, later, critics of the Labour leadership. An active supporter of the Suffragette movement, he ran for parliament on the single issue of giving women the right to vote.
