by Richard Pratt, after Abraham Wivell

William Creswick had a long career as an actor and theatre manager. His first appearance in London was in 1835, at the Queen's Theatre, where he performed as Horace Meredith in Douglas Jerrold's Schoolfellows. In 1849 Creswick and his partner, Richard Shepherd, took over the management of the Surrey Theatre, where he opened as Alasco in Knowles's The Rose of Aragon. Creswick managed the theatre until his retirement in 1862, after which he continued to perform in London and the provinces.
